Swami SharanamPost-Pilgrimage Guide Back To Home
After Return

The return journey: concluding the sacred vow without losing its inner light

The pilgrimage does not end when the bus reaches home. The return is its own sacred phase, where the mala is removed properly, the Irumudi is opened respectfully, and the discipline of the Vratham is carried back into daily life.

Mala Visarjan and vow conclusion

Where to remove the mala

Ideally, the mala is removed at the same local temple where the journey began, or at home before a lit lamp with prayer and gratitude.

Who removes it

The Guruswami traditionally removes the mala. If he is unavailable, a parent, family elder, or the pilgrim may do so with the proper chant and reverence.

Final prayer

A small bhajan, lamp offering, or simple Dakshina before the Lord or the Guru keeps the end of the vow as dignified as its beginning.

Handling the Neyyu

The ghee offered for Abhishekam and brought back is treated as spiritually potent. Many devotees share a small amount with family and neighbors.

Handling the shell

The empty shell of the Mudra Thenga should be treated with care. It may be dried for lamp use or respectfully consigned to clean fire or nature, not discarded carelessly into household waste.

Sharing Appam and Aravana

Prasadam is best distributed promptly so the blessing of the Sannidhanam spreads through the home and neighborhood.

Gradual diet return

Do not rush immediately into heavy, spicy, or non-vegetarian food. Give the body a calm 2 to 3 day transition back into ordinary routine.

Temple visits on the return route

Many batches continue the devotional journey through nearby temples, district routes, or the longer Kerala temple circuits instead of ending the yatra abruptly at the first descent.

Route-wise guide

Use the shorter return-route page for the common temple circuits through Pathanamthitta, southbound Kerala, central Kerala, northbound Kerala, and interstate travel.

District directory

Use the separate 100-temple directory when the family wants a broader list by district without crowding the post-pilgrimage reading.

Living Tatvamasi after the yatra

The Ayyappa you found in the hills should now be visible in your actions. Let your speech remain softer. Let your appetite remain disciplined. Let your service remain active. That is how the pilgrimage continues after the return.
