Five instructions I give every first-time pilgrim
1. Begin under guidance
If possible, travel with an experienced Guruswami or a disciplined senior in your group. First-time confusion disappears when you walk behind someone who knows the route, the customs, the rhythm of prayer, and the order of the pilgrimage.
2. Observe the 41-day Vratham sincerely
Celibacy, vegetarian discipline, simple clothing, daily prayer, controlled speech, and humility are not optional ornaments. They are the true beginning of the yatra.
3. Keep your dress and behaviour simple
Wear the traditional pilgrim colours used by your group. Avoid display, luxury, argument, and loud behaviour. Your mind should become lighter as the journey approaches.
4. Reach the hill with order already in place
Virtual Q, ID proof, medicines, route planning, rest, and group coordination must be settled before you enter the intense crowd zones.
5. Darshan comes to the patient pilgrim
Do not push. Do not jump queues. Do not treat police guidance as obstruction. The one who walks with patience receives darshan with inner peace.
