Pallivetta: the royal hunt of Lord Ayyappa
Spiritual significance
Pallivetta symbolizes the destruction of inner enemies such as ego, desire, and anger. It also highlights the Lord's protective warrior form, balancing the more familiar yogic image remembered at Sabarimala.
The ritual movement
The thidambu is carried in procession from the Sannidhanam toward Saramkuthi. The movement is traditionally restrained, and the symbolic hunt culminates in the destruction of evil through the arrow ritual.
Pallikuruppu
After the hunt, the Lord is remembered as resting outside the main sanctum. This royal sleep, or Pallikuruppu, gives Pallivetta its unique emotional tenderness before the next morning's Arattu.
