This is the core offering of the Sabarimala pilgrimage. The ghee carried in the ney-thenga is offered over the idol, and devotees later receive the blessed aadu ghee as prasadam. The ritual represents the merging of the individual soul into the universal divine.
As the lamps rise and the evening gathers over the hill, the Sannidhanam takes on its most radiant glow. For many devotees this becomes the most visually unforgettable darshan hour of the day.
The closing lullaby is one of the most tender moments at Sabarimala. The lamps are gradually extinguished, the final notes fade, and the Melsanthi closes the doors of the Sreekovil for the night.
